Gemma Emmanuel-Waterton

Gemma has over 10 years experience working in Theatre with a particular focus on supporting emerging artists and improving diversity within arts organisations. Whilst at the Arts Council, she led the implementation of the race equality scheme through the development of the RESPOND publication and MAKING IT REAL programme.

Gemma has a strong background in customer services and events having led front of house operations at the Tricycle and Albany.

After working for companies such as PUSH and Tiata Fahodzi, in 2006 she became the Producer of Eclipse Theatre, working with regional theatres to develop middle scale touring work led by black artists. 

Gemma is currently working in the public sector whilst developing ideas for future theatre/arts projects.

“I am delighted to be a board member of Phakama as my route into arts management was through youth theatres such as Lewisham, Drill Hall and National Youth Theatres. I was also a founding participant (and later a facilitator) of  Phakama UK projects.”
