Velela!

Velela Pop-up Festival

Velela! was a two-week creative residency in London for young artists. This Pop-up Festival produced by Phakama marked the organisation’s fifteenth anniversary. It took place from 16-30 June 2012 and involved voices, talents, expertise and contributions from almost 100 young people from around the world.
The first edition of our Velela! is now completed. To catch up on some of the projects, conversations and performances please read the Festival Magazine http://issuu.com/thinkgrowth/docs/velela
Velela! gave the necessary space for young people to explore some of the most pressing challenges of our time. They experimented, developed skills, collaborated, exchanged ideas, rehearsed and celebrated new ways of living and making art in response to the world.
Project Phakama is an international youth arts organisation that is driven by the desire to make exceptional art. It believes that individuals’ stories have the power to move, challenge and inform. Phakama creates spaces for young artists to express, grow and perform together. Project Phakama UK is funded by Arts Council England and is an arts organisation in residence at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL).
